Beginning Optimist

The 8 ft Optimist dinghy is an ideal "learn to sail" boat as well as one that provides a challenge at the racing level. It's a very stable boat and is easy to handle on the water. Beginning Optimist is for the new or less experienced sailor, age 7 and up.

Students are taught how to rig the boat, basic boat handling skills, knot tying, and water safety. At the beginner level we initially place two children per boat to make them feel more comfortable while learning. We maintain a student to staff ratio of 1 to 6.

If you wish, you can register your child for both morning and afternoon classes. We will avoid repetition of curriculum where possible and we will provide supervison for full-day students during the lunch hour. Deduct $35 for the second class.

The classes run in two-week sessions. Students may repeat the course to gain a better understanding of sailing fundamentals, after which they can also move on to the Intermediate Optimist sailing class.
