How do I choose a class? The first step is to consider the age, skill level, and interests of the student. The school uses the following age brackets: 4-6, 7-11, 11-16 years old, and adults. Three levels of instruction - beginning, intermediate, and racing - are taught in Optimist dinghies and Club 420 sailboats. For more information, please refer to the school's Class Overview Chart on the home page. What are the typical formats of your classes? Most classes meet several times a week for two to six weeks. Classes in Optimists are half-day, while 420 classes are full-day. Adult classes and Parent/Child classes meet in the evenings. For more information, please refer to the school's Class Overview Chart on the home page. What do students learn in class? The curriculum for all classes is designed to teach all aspects of sailing, so that students can advance through various levels of complexity in boat handling until they are able to sail with confidence under a variety of wind conditions. Is my child ready for a racing class? If your child has attained a good skill level and has an interest in sailing at a higher level, racing courses can provide a fun and exciting opportunity. How do I register for a class? Information about the registration process as well as downloadable registration forms are located on the Registration page. At this time, the school does not have the capacity for online registration or to accept credit cards. Please call the director if you wish to make specific payment arrangements. Limited scholarships are available. I still have questions. Please feel free to contact us here if you still have questions. |
