High School Racing

What is it?

High School sailing is becoming more and more popular in the Twin Cities. The Lake Calhoun Sailing School's twenty Club 420 sailboats are available to students in grades 8-12 who want to join a sailing team and represent their school. High School teams sail in the spring and in the fall.

Who is it for?

Any 8th through 12th grade student can join. LCSS sponsors 16 teams of skippers and crews. Sign up individually and be paired with another sailor, or gather a team from your school. Sailing experience is helpful, but a desire to sail is the only requirement.

What are we going to sail?

The Club 420 is the hottest boat in youth sailing, measuring 14 feet long and weighing 260 pounds. It carries a mainsail and jib, and is very responsive and fun to sail. Club 420s are raced in local, national, and world championships at the high school and collegiate levels. You will sail on Lake Calhoun, Lake Minnetonka, and White Bear Lake against other high school sailors. You can even compete in local and national regattas.
